Where is P.O.E.T. located?

We are primarily a foster based rescue with a small kennel to house animals awaiting foster, medical treatment and/or temperament testing. We have around 100 foster homes all over the Metro-Detroit/Tri-County area for dogs and puppies. Our foster homes allow the animals to learn being with a family, in a home and for us to find out what type of forever home environment is best for each animal. Our animals receive medical care, love and training while until they can find their forever homes.

Our address for mail is: POET Animal Rescue,

P.O. Box 606,

Garden City, MI 48136

How can I meet a P.O.E.T. ANIMAL?

If you are interested in a specific animal, please fill out an application online. If you are just browsing, check out our adoption events, send us a message or check out our Facebook (www.facebook.com/POETAnimalRescue). If there is a particular animal you are interested in meeting, please let us know so we can try to make arrangements to meet or for that animal to be at an upcoming event.

What is the adoption process?

First, please fill out an adoption application.

We will then call and do a vet check on any current & past pets.

A home visit will be done in order to match the right animal to the right home.

A meet and greet of the animals will be arranged.

Once this process is completed, a contract will be completed and adoption fee collected. You will hear from a representative of P.O.E.T. within two weeks of your application being submitted, unless your application was denied.

Fostering:

We survive on our foster homes! For each additional foster home we have, we can save an additional animal. Foster homes take in animals that have been rescued from shelters, or surrendered by their owners, and help them to learn the how to live in a home. You can choose the size, age, type of animal you are willing to foster and we will try to accommodate your needs. We provide all medical expenses at our vets, food, crate, toys, etc. for our fosters. Please fill out a foster application to help our cause! Thank you so much.

Volunteering:

We have so many ways to volunteer! Here are a couple different ways: cleaning kennels, walking dogs and feeding dogs at our kennel in Westland, Michigan; helping at adoption events to walk dogs, answer questions, set-up crates; participating in home visits; transporting animals to and from, vet appointments, foster’s homes and adoption events; picking up donations from various homes, businesses; delivering food and supplies to our fosters and outreach homes; and, sharing, liking and commenting on our Facebook posts is an easy and quick way to help us! These things can be done when you have the time and you can commit to only those that fit your schedule, please consider taking some time out to help! Please note you must be over 18 to volunteer or have a parent/guardian present.

Pit-bull policy:

Any pit or pit mixed dog or puppy may only be adopted out to a person or persons over 21 and you must own your home. Proof of home ownership is required at time of home visit/adoption.
